When starting a sports blog, there are just a few easy steps you need to take in order to get your blog up and rolling. If this is your first sports blog the following steps will help you not only get yours sports blog off-the-ground, but we will show you how to get your sports blog hosted for free.
1. Choose Your Domain
Your domain is perhaps the most important step in starting a sports blog. Your domain will not only be your web address for the world, but it will also be the identity for your blog. Think of your ‘domain’ as the name of your business. It should give your readers an understanding of what your blog is all about. It should be clear, concise, and memorable.
Having keywords in your domain will be an added benefit for generating traffic in the search engines. For example if you are starting a sports blog on the Texas Rangers, you should really consider using the keyword ‘Texas Rangers’ in your domain. I won’t get into the full details of keyword-centric domains in this post, but I will soon enough. Just know that if you want to be found in the search engines (which you NEED to do), you really need to consider what people are searching for in the search engines, which keywords and in what order they are using to find information related to your blog. A great tool for discovering keywords, and the amount of traffic that is being generated from each keyword can be found through Google. They have a free keyword tool that you can use here.
2. Register Your Domain
After you have decided on what domain you want, the next step is to see if it’s available and register it. Now this will cost a small amount of money usually around $10 per year, which is a small fee considering this is the only fee you will have to get your ‘business’ online. Although there are many places online to register a domain, the most trusted and most popular domain registrar is godaddy. We host all of our domains there because it is so easy to set up, and they have a great support system in place to help you with any questions or concerns.
To register your domain on godaddy will cost you about $10/year. You can get it discounted to $7.49 through us here:

Perhaps the most widely used blogging platform for sports blog professionals is WordPress. WordPress is open-source, meaning that anyone can create tools and customize the platform openly to fit better help the blogging community as a whole.
